Meet Carly Xerri. Carly is the National Community Development Manager at Stockland. 

Carly lives in Sydney. 

What’s the best thing about garage sales?

Garage sales extend the life of goods and are a great way to meet people in your street and neighbourhood. Best of all, you can grab a bargain! I am especially excited about the Garage Sale Trail in my roles as Community Development Manager - it’s a fantastic way to connect people and create a sense of community while reducing our impact on the environment. 

What’s the best thing you’ve ever bought at a garage sale?

A bike when I was 12! I rode it for years before it finally went to the bike garage in the sky. 

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever bought at a garage sale?

A car! Sure it was an old battered thing but what a great way to bring a Garage Sale to life. 

What goes on in your garage sale?

Leaves, dusty fishing lines and a kayak that we have used twice!. 

Whose garage sale would you most like to go to?

A garage sale in my street. It’s always nice to be able to wonder down the road, chat to your neighbours and potentially grab a bargain. 

What’s your dream garage sale find?

Clothes in my size!

Who would be in your dream garage band?

Powderfinger. 

Whose second hand shoes would you most like to walk in?

There are two Jims whose shoes I would like to walk in:

Jim #1.  Jim Diers is an inspiration in the community space. For over 30 years he has successfully worked with grassroots community groups and individuals to get people more involved in their communities. The Garage Sale Trail is a small step toward encourgaing communities to connect and meet which is why Stockland are keen to support the project. 

Jim #2. Jimmy Choos  I would love to walk in those shoes, and hopefully I’ll find some on the Trail. 

What’s your top sustainability tip?

Host a community BBQ at your Garage Sale! Social sustainability is just as important as environmental sustainability.
